Opened in April 2007, the FNECC is administered by the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (OVPDEI). We are a central part of the diversity initiatives at IU Bloomington, which has a long history of advancing excellence through the transformative power of educational programs, recruitment, and outreach for students from every race and ethnicity.
The mission of the FNECC encompasses four components:
Our space serves as a gathering place for Native American students—a central hub for the Native experience at IU Bloomington. This unique space allows students to feel valued and find a sense of unity on campus. Students discover a safe haven at the FNECC, where they are supported, welcomed, and given the tools, resources, and opportunities to explore their cultural heritage and establish important connections to IU Bloomington and beyond.
We offer unique activities designed to preserve and promote Native American culture and heritage. We also partner with some of the country’s most influential and respected tribal leaders and scholars to provide opportunities emphasizing Native American traditions, ceremony, and storytelling.
